A global survey of downloads shows TikTok has reached the top of the list of social media providers for the first time since the study was first conducted in 2018.
TikTok, owned by China-based ByteDance, is believed to have one billion users worldwide including more than 100 million in the United States.
The company has found success in short-form videos and its content discovery algorithm. The company is also rapidly expanding its efforts to improve the mobile ecommerce experience for brands and users.

Short form video has proven to be very successful for TikTok. And Google and Facebook are playing catch-up.
According to Chuzen Kin, marketing manager at App Annie the total viewing time for TikTok in the U.S. and U.K. is longer than that for YouTube, and short videos will continue to attract attention,
